Set the Destroyer by Rebecca Kemp

This was a commission piece for Dark Wisdom magazine. Sketched out in pencil, then colored in Photoshop. I gotta say I'm very happy with the way this piece turned out. I may even do more Egyptians gods like this and make a collectible print set.

Medium: digital
Tags: egyptian god gods set
Decaying Touch by Rebecca Kemp

This is an illustration of my bat-femme necromancer, Nakia. I have an older illustration done in colored pencils here.

This piece was colored entirely in Photoshop 5.0. I first sketched out a rough of the figure, then scanned it in to color. The background I created entirely with Photoshop without a sketch.

Medium: digital
Tags: bat bat woman girl magic mage necromancer wizard
Felysial by Rebecca Kemp

Felysial (pronounced fel-iss-ee-al) is a 3rd edition Dungeons & Dragon's character of mine. She's a thief/fighter/sorcerer (she shows an interest in everything). When she's not out saving the world, her favorite pastimes are playing "sneak and pounce" with her friends, murdering small critters, sleeping and taking shiny things (to keep them safe, of course).

I threw down a basic pencil sketch on paper, then scanned it in and colored it in Photoshop. The background was stolen from an old sketch of mine, which I then colored in Photoshop.

Some interesting factoids:
The stones are supposed to be very ancient ruins that are mostly buried and have been softened by several millennia of windswept fields. To the viewer' right, left of Felysial, a stone is inscribed with the ancient runes of Nug-Soth, a language associated with H.P. Lovecraft's Mythos. It spells out the name of yours truly. Finally, the magic runes on her bow say 'Felysial'.

Medium: digital
Tags: cat cat feline woman girl
The Second Coming by Rebecca Kemp

This painting is based on an Egyptian myth. The original myth goes that a lioness-headed goddess, Sekhmet, was sent by Ra to punish mankind for their sins. Sekhmet enjoyed this task a little too much and would have destroyed the world if not for Ra's clever intervention. He transformed all the blood that she spilled into wine. When she went to consume the blood, she got drunk and fell asleep, just short of total destruction.

Can you see the similarity of this myth and Noah's Ark? The principle is the same although the characters are very different.

Anyway, my fevered imagination wondered what would happen if Sekhmet came back for another go. Thus, "The Second Coming".

There is also the side benefit of pissing off the religious right. Isn't that how Mapplethorpe made his millions? ; )

Medium: acrylics
Tags: egyptian goddess sekhmet gods
Ya 'Otter' Relax! by Rebecca Kemp

This piece was originally done for a contest for Perrier spring water for their new labels. I didn't win. A blobby, splotchy abstract piece won instead. I was clearly not what they were looking for, so I don't feel bad about it. In fact, it's their loss! Wouldn't this otter grab your attention if you saw him on a water bottle? Oh well. Anyway, I always joke with people and say "You have no idea how hard it was to get him to pose for me like that!"

Medium: acrylics
Tags: otter otter funny sea humor
Makin' the Rounds by Rebecca Kemp

This kitty is quite at home in her Rainforest. Constantly on the prowl in search of...what? Food? A Mate? Only the forest knows what goes on in that savage mind.

I've had this idea stuck in my mind for years. I've finally let her out of my head. The spots mark her as a jaguar. The frog is a native Rainforest tree frog. The orchics I made up.

Medium: acrylics
Tags: cat Jaguar woman jungle prowl catgirl
The Fox and the Cheese by Rebecca Kemp

The Fox and the Cheese is based on an Aesop's Fable, The Fox and the Raven. A raven has a piece of cheese in her beak when a hungry fox passes by. He asks for a bite of the cheese, but the raven refuses. Then, slyly, he asks if she could sing for him instead because he tells her what a beautiful sing voice she has. Flattered, the raven croaks out a note, dropping the cheese. The fox snatches it up and runs off with it. Moral: Flattery will get you everywhere. In this painting, I upgraded the cheese to a gem and anthropomorphasized the fox.

Medium: acrylics
Tags: fox Raven myth fable Aesop's stories
Here's a quick sketch of my new 3rd Edition D&D character, Felysial. You won't find furry write-ups in the new system yet, so I made up my own. Racial Traits: Dex +2, Wis -1, Listen +2, Spot +2, bite 1d3, claw 1d4, Feline Independence: +2 vs control spells. (Just try and get a cat to do what you want! : ) Yes, I am a great screaming nerd. Now you know my dirty little secret.
